I just spent a wonderful 90 minutes at church where, as a spiritual exercise, we were asked to look at various writing prompts and write somethings. This was just the kick in the butt that I needed both to resume, after a few years break, to regularly writing. While a newspaper reporterI was regularly writing an average of ten articles a week. I once guessed at my total journalism ouput at something like 5,000 articles.
For at least ten years, before and after I switched from reporting on education to wanting to become an educator myself, I leadonline writing exercises in which I participated myself. My favorite was Writing Down the Exercises (I'll post an example below)because you were forced to turn off your inner editor (the one that's negative and gets fixated on grammar and punctuationproblems) while you write. Some of my favorite pieces of writing, post-journalism, came from such exercises.
So I'm going to resume leading such exercises. I'm not sure how well they will work on facebook instead of places like Newsvine butI'll give it a try.
I'll post one exercise later tonight and another on Wednesday and another example on Friday
I'll post links to and from this piece
This will take you to a collection of writing advice pieces and writing pieces
