Tonight, the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences has a chance to right a five-year wrong. It could honor "Friday Night Lights," the now-defunct Texas-set series airing on DirecTV and NBC that Emmy voters only began to nominate in major categories last year.
The organization — which in the past has let shows like "The Wire," "Battlestar Galactica" and "Homicide: Life on the Street" come and go without a single Best Drama nomination — could award "Friday Night Lights" with an Emmy in that category.
Enough is enough, Academy. "FNL" is wide open, in the end zone, ready for the ball. Throw that pass.
