We have been discussing this show via seeded reviews of the pilot here and here but I thought it might be helpful to have one article where we can discuss - with spoilers - the first three episodes. And helfpul is one of my middle names.
As with my reviews of other series I am not going to attempt to summarize each episode. If you google you can find recaps but I'm more interested in starting discussions.
My opinion in a nutshell
I think this show has much potential. The characters are interesting. The writing and acting are stellar (I'll quote below a few lines I like). I think this may be a new addiction, er, addition to my weekly tv schedule as described over here.
I was initially worried about Ray Ramono since I have not been a fan of his standup or his show but he's really impressed me so far.
I'm also a Scott Bakula fan, going back to watching him when original episodes of Quantum Leap and, more recently, on Chuck.
On episode #2 I love when they try to take a photo of the license plate and instead shoot themselves. I make that mistake. I mean, who hasn't? And I loved Andre's character then getting all worried about his appearance.
I liked that Andre (Owen) and his wife have trouble making proper insults.
I loved that scene from the hospital in episode one with his wife, you know the one where she does a 180.
The show reminds me I too am growing old. Sigh. But that's not neccesarily a problem of the shows. It's sort of like when I tell employers that my biggest failing is I refuse to lie - so it's sort of a double negative.
Owen to cast sales purchase: "Do you hate me?"
"Man, now you will have to start watching the Twilight movies" (after Scott gets a girlfriend who is young)
