25 middle school students arrested for food fight in Chicago

advertisement

excerpt:"he New York Times reported yesterday that 25 students ages 11-15 were arrested for a food fight in the school cafeteria at a middle school in Chicago. The children were rounded-up, arrested, put in jail for eight hours, and charged with a misdemeanor for reckless conduct. The students were also suspended for two days from school.

Diana Shulla-Cose, President and co-founder of Perspectives Charter Schools, said that they have an on-campus police officer who had to call the police for back-up and then even additional police had to be called because the food fight escalated and that resulted in the large number of arrests. Diana Shulla-Cose described the food fight as "unfortunate" and added, "We don't take this lightly."

Who's leading the conversation?
This visualization below allows you to see the impact that each user has on the current conversation. The top row contains the group of users who have had the most impact, the 2nd row the group of users who have had the 2nd most impact (et cetera). Users with similar impact are grouped together, and the average score of the group is shown to the left of the group. The author of the article is also shown on the left, in their corresponding group. Each user's score is based on the number of comments the user has made plus the number of votes their comments have received. The scores are calculated relative one another, so while their absolute value is not particularly important, their relative difference does indicate a larger difference in impact on the conversation.

Make them clean up the mess and clean the chalk board erasers. Let the kids vent some.

Sounds like many punches were thrown as well. Cant imagine the cops responding to a mere Junior High food fight.

After they labeled a 6 year old a sexual harasser, nothing surprises me anymore.

They should have made the kids stay after school and clean up the mess.

but instead they over reacted!

the people involved in this need to be fired.

what next a firing squad on the football field?

Yep food fights began with Obama and its the end of the world as we know it the sky is falling everything’s Obama's fault! (Do ya think Al Capone was Obama's fault too?)

Over react much?

It was a food fight get over it!

looks to me like things are getting better! No knives no guns!

Ummm, what exactly entails "reckless conduct"? If punches were thrown, the charge would likely be assault. "Reckless conduct" sounds weak.

I would have all of them in the Cafeteria cleaning it up for a month, and working the line for a month.

I wonder just how many pissed off parents will have confronted administrators about this, when its all over. How many will lose their positions? This was a huge over reaction to exuberant youth! They must have forgotten what it is like. gonna be 42 and I still feel like a kid at times.
