excerpt:"Kelly Roan, 28, and his girlfriend might have gotten away with multiple burglaries, police say, if he hadn't shot himself in the foot. Literally.

At 9:45 p.m. Sunday, Roan was driving with Casey Dixon, 20, in the 13900 block of North U.S. 183 near the Texas 45 overpass in Northwest Austin when Dixon, who is eight months pregnant, handed him a 9 mm handgun, according to an arrest affidavit. He accidentally shot himself in the right foot and lost control of the car, crashing it into a retaining wall, the affidavit said.

An Austin firefighter who was driving by the wreck stopped to help the couple and heard Roan tell Dixon to "get rid of the other stuff," the firefighter told police. Dixon threw the handgun and several other items, including two driver's licenses and a high school identification card, off the edge of the elevated highway, the affidavit said.

Who's leading the conversation?
This visualization below allows you to see the impact that each user has on the current conversation. The top row contains the group of users who have had the most impact, the 2nd row the group of users who have had the 2nd most impact (et cetera). Users with similar impact are grouped together, and the average score of the group is shown to the left of the group. The author of the article is also shown on the left, in their corresponding group. Each user's score is based on the number of comments the user has made plus the number of votes their comments have received. The scores are calculated relative one another, so while their absolute value is not particularly important, their relative difference does indicate a larger difference in impact on the conversation.

A few months ago a friend asked me to provide a good example of when the word "literally" is used correctly since 99 percent of the time it isn't. So when I see a lede paragraph that DOES use it correctly now I seed it and email her. And such is the case here.
