Who's leading the conversation?
This visualization below allows you to see the impact that each user has on the current conversation. The top row contains the group of users who have had the most impact, the 2nd row the group of users who have had the 2nd most impact (et cetera). Users with similar impact are grouped together, and the average score of the group is shown to the left of the group. The author of the article is also shown on the left, in their corresponding group. Each user's score is based on the number of comments the user has made plus the number of votes their comments have received. The scores are calculated relative one another, so while their absolute value is not particularly important, their relative difference does indicate a larger difference in impact on the conversation.

Madison — As the state agency charged with running elections, the Government Accountability Board can't show favor for Republicans or Democrats.

But is it biased toward anarchists?

The board recently launched a new logo - an A inside a circle - that looks similar to the traditional symbol for anarchy.

"It being an anarchy sign and the government - there's definitely irony there," said Madison's Ear Wax Record Shop owner Rob Cleveland, who is familiar with the anarchy symbol from following punk music for years.

"It's almost like the joke is on them," he said.

The board paid about $4,900 to have the logo designed by Madison-based Cricket Design Works, said Kevin Kennedy, the board's director. He said he first became aware of the similarity when a board employee mentioned it as they reviewed drafts of the design.

it figured your basic anarchist would despise anything organized to the degree that it would require a logo, or symbal (flag) !!!

luv,

ron

Isn't it ironic that there is a universal symbol of anarchy to begin with?

LOL! Didja know that the phrases "Left" and "Right" meaning the respectively liberal and conservative come from the French and the seating of the legislative assembly of 1791?

I still get a touch confused when I hear about blue states and red states in the United States. Which side is red and which side is blue? How'd that happen?

Blame the red and blue states on color tv. They just had to go with two different colors that showed up as different on black and white tv too.

It's not just governments that make stupid logo ideas. When I worked for kodak it was in the apparatus division or KAD. Some pencil pusher decided that to differentiate us from the companies European equipment division or EED we should change to the United States Equipment Division or USED. This made it all the way to having new letterheads printed and signs made for the different plants before the big roll out.

We all got called to a meeting on a Monday morning for the big announcement. The idiot that rolled it out to us just about got laughed off the stage with all of us low paid factory workers who didn't have college degrees so obviously couldn't think for ourselves saying things like, "I feel so USED" and "I'd sure like to buy some USED equipment." Tuesday morning we were renamed KAD.

I too love stories like this. Thanks Scott

The Government Accountability Board's new logo looks vaguely like an anarchy symbol much in the same way the Christian cross looks vaguely like the lower-case letter "t", its just coincidence. There is no news story here, must of been a slow day at the press.

I don't think it looks like the anarchy symbol. And I should know... When I was 17, I was at a party. And there may or may not have been drinking and other party favors. Anyway, some how I ended up drunk. A friend of mine was giving people home made tattoos using Indian Ink. Long story short, and being into punk and metal as I was/am. I ended up with an anarchy symbol on my left arm. It actually looks OK, my friend who done it was actually good with Indian Ink, a pencil, a needle, and some thread. I'd love to get it covered up but I am on blood thinners now.

How many ways to get what you want. I use the best, I use the rest. I use the NME. I use Anarchy! "Cause I wanna be Anarchy!

    When I worked for kodak

My first digital camera was a Kodak and I loved it and loved the service. I was always on the phone with a representative and received amazing service. They even sent me free attachments. Then the economy went south and so did the Kodak services. I wouldn't buy a Kodak now but I really miss the old Kodak. Sorry if this is off topic. You can delete.

What you miss is the new old kodak. The one where everything is made in China. Not sure where they outsourced their customer service too.

Personally I'm surprised that they are still in business after all the bonehead decisions I saw them make.

When I taught photography at a college last year some of the students had kodak digital cameras. They had some nice features and were easy to use. Now if they had just listened to those of us on the floor they would have been leading the industry instead of playing catch up. For years the big bosses kept saying that film was the way to go and digital was just a fad. Right up until inexpensive digital cameras started to kick their butt in the marketplace. That's when the did some big cuts in employees and I was emancipated.

Does plagarism apply for logos? I think I'd have to pass on paying $4,900.00 for a logo that already exists. Guessing somebody is WI is getting reamed out for this one.

LOL! Is there an organization of anarchist that "own" the symbol? Who is their lawyer?

This is rich soil to grow a story. I'm going out right now to copyright the anarchy symbol

            ( ...in spray paint...)
