This is great though I'd rather they got rid of Chris Matthews

What's this?
Who's leading the conversation?
This visualization below allows you to see the impact that each user has on the current conversation. The top row contains the group of users who have had the most impact, the 2nd row the group of users who have had the 2nd most impact (et cetera). Users with similar impact are grouped together, and the average score of the group is shown to the left of the group. The author of the article is also shown on the left, in their corresponding group. Each user's score is based on the number of comments the user has made plus the number of votes their comments have received. The scores are calculated relative one another, so while their absolute value is not particularly important, their relative difference does indicate a larger difference in impact on the conversation.

Woot!

And I second the sentiment on Matthews. Smart enough, but a bit too loquacious and self-important for me.

Not only smartest but knows how to conduct herself in a manner that is informative but in good taste and spirit. Abrams did great work on the Georgia Governor thing but in most shows he is just argumentative which is the trail lawyer part of him I guess.

Howard Kurtz also has a good piece on the news mentioning in part:

With the promotion -- "The Rachel Maddow Show" begins Sept. 8 -- the 35-year-old commentator breaks into what has sometimes been derided as a boys club at the network, led by Olbermann and Chris Matthews. Hillary Clinton's campaign frequently ripped MSNBC for what it called sexist coverage during the Democratic primaries. Maddow, who lives with her girlfriend Susan Mikula in Manhattan and Northampton, Mass., may also be the first openly gay woman to host a prime-time news program.

What else would anyone expect? Although Abrams tended to follow the lib company line that is firmly established at MSNBC, he was probably the most fair of all their marquee or primetime hosts.

MSNBC, on the heels of Keith Olbermann's disgraceful, strange, and prolonged attack on John McCain the other night in his 'Special Comment', is telling the world ,with the partisan Maddows's promotion, that they are every bit as one sided in philosophy as FoxNews is.

Olbermann refers to his program as "the news hour". How laughable. He doesn't even try to present anything as a straight news story. LOL. You are far out of touch with reality.

Obama has failed to realize the main lesson to be learned from the Democratic primaries - he was lucky. Without the undemocratic , unfair caucus results, and the really, really offensive system of proportional delegates, which rewarded Obama favoring districts with extra delegates, the issue would have been in doubt up until the completion of the roll call in Denver. It has always been a peculiar fantasy of Obama and his deluded supporters that he has had some sort of mandate from the Democratic rank and file. As we now see, with Pew Research polling showing that , still, over 15% of Democrats say they WILL NOT vote for Obama, his campaign, and supporters like you, continue to delude themselves. He needs to reach out to Clinton Democrats, not the other way around, if he wants to win.

Rachael Maddow is a terrific and appropriate choice to replace Dan Abrams. Rachael first gained my respect when she was on Abram's show along with an African-American female journalist who's name I cannot recall and that little nazi putz, Pat Buchanan. The African-American woman was in the middle of commenting on the issue at hand and Buchanan told her to shut-up. Those were his exact words. Abrams tried to roll past Buchanan's offensive and disrespectful remark but Rachel slowed his roll and told the panel and the audience that Buchanan had crossed a line that was totally unacceptable and should apologize. Abrams apparently was much more lacking than Rachael in the ball department because he mumbled something incoherently and immediate went to break with no further admonition of Buchanan. I'm confident that Ms. Maddow will continue to display this same type of rare courage when hosting her own show. I would also hope that she would never allow the likes of Pat Buchanan or anyone else of his ilk to stain the set of her show unless it was to intellectually fillet him like a trout which I'm very confident she is capable of doing.

I agree with the sentiments previously expressed concerning Chris Matthews. I feel that he should be given a massive shot of Thorozene in each of his butt cheeks, a big bowl of warm milk and a fuzzy blanket in some remote corner of the studio. He can rest there indefinitely with his big Chesire cat, @!$%# eating grin mumbling about "Hilwirwy" Clinton punctuated with the occasional "HA" until the cows come home.

Sorry John, but that was my point. Ms. Maddow knew that Buchanan was a paid actor for MSNBC and therefore a coworker but she didn't let that stop her from doing the right thing. I believe MSNBC has, or had a number of other token conservatives such as Tucker Carlson and Rick Scarborough. How many tokens does it take before they're not stereotyped as token? I really don't much care but what the hell. I'm just a token progressive learning to live in the shadow of the real smart people.

There you go. On MSNBC , objectivity is a gimmick. As I have said before, MSNBC has as much right to become entirely left politically just as Fox has been right politically. Just don't try to tell people the shows are fair or objective. Rachel Maddow is a left ideologue who will now have an hour to portray her presuppositions about the days events.

Along with Olbermann you now have two solid hours of prejudiced left propaganda and spin. Their right, but not honest 'news' programming. Olbermann, ridiculously, still refers to his propaganda fest as "the news hour". What a hoot.

Dan Abrams was very objective...and always listened to both sides.

I admire Maddow's skills as a political analyst, but I'm not to keen on her as a political pundit or commentator. The few times I have seen her host the Olbermann show, she was just to subjective for me, and I happen to be a liberal liberal.

I've got a new slogan for the McCain campaign and his supporters.... Crying wolf to the white house! McCain / Palin 08! (stop playing the victim card to avoid issues)

Are you not concerned about her statements that tie religion and politics? You should be.

I would be terrified, and I think most of America would be as would be as well if she as VP (or as leader of the free world) pushed for policies that violated one of our most sacred principles, the separation of church and state. Intelligent design comes to mind...

This a legit argument to bring up. And a question Palin should answer.

      Good first show Rachel Maddow.

PS Don't feature Olberman anymore. You're running the show now.

Rachel Maddox is my girl --a highly intelligent woman. I love listening to her arguments and reasoning. However, I disagree with individuals who say get rid of Chris Matthews, though he can be overly aggressive and rude at times, like abruptly interrupting people to change topics when they're still talking. But I can tell he loves his job. I wish MSNBC would get rid to Joe Scarsborough (Good morning Joe). The man just irks me to the utmost and to the point I barely watch the show, except when a guest I want to hear is on. In such instance, I just mute Joe until he finishes talking.

well, rush and o'reilly love their jobs too - that doesn't mean we want to watch them being rude. I do think Matthews is boorish
