Fact Checker: Was Obama Ever A Muslim?

Meanwhile I love this idea of some to adopt Hussein as a temporary name to try to take away its power to those using it against Obama

Who's leading the conversation?
This visualization below allows you to see the impact that each user has on the current conversation. The top row contains the group of users who have had the most impact, the 2nd row the group of users who have had the 2nd most impact (et cetera). Users with similar impact are grouped together, and the average score of the group is shown to the left of the group. The author of the article is also shown on the left, in their corresponding group. Each user's score is based on the number of comments the user has made plus the number of votes their comments have received. The scores are calculated relative one another, so while their absolute value is not particularly important, their relative difference does indicate a larger difference in impact on the conversation.

This is the rumor that won't go away and stories like this one in the Washington Post about the emails about Obama explain why. I thought it might be worthwhile to seed this fact checker story on it.

I don't think that rumor is dead as the W Post notes - there are some polled who say they won't vote for obama based on their mistaken belief he's muslim (and some saying he was born muslim)

Fellow Euro-Americans, I hope everything is now clear to you, even those of you who live in gated communities or square states where everyone is monotonously pale.

Ha! Nice link, Tedd, but I disagree. Heck, yesterday my great-aunt complained (in my response to my grandpa saying we can't have four more years of Bush) that "Obama (mumble mumble) Muslim (mumble mumble) give money to people back in Africa, where all his family is!"

I'll also mention that another old white person in the room seemed to be confused. (He's related to me, but I dunno how.) He said "no, I don't think it'll be Bush" as if he thought my grandfather meant Bush was running for re-re-selection. Nah, people are still focused on the old John McCain and the rumours of Obama's past, rather than current facts.

Never can tell what really happened behind those gated communities. That great-aunt that complained might be in fact related to that guy your talking about in sentance number 2, you know, what's his name, and my ex-girlfriend from Kenya know's all about John's little night on the town with, well anyway..I don't want to stir up those Bush's...☺

Sadly I too have relatives (specifically in the South) that are very anti-Obama due to their lack of social enlightenment and assumptions based on his religious or racial background.

It's shocking how close minded a young college grad can be in 2008 and how misguided allegiance to the good 'ol red white and blue is for some.

I had to tear into my niece via email for forwarding a chain that said 'why muslims cannot be good americans' and how that was tied to Obama.

Issues, policies, trustworthiness, leadership abilities - you'd think this is what matters.

No wonder our country is in a @!$%# funnel of degradation.

Sorry, it makes me mad and frustrated. ugh.

It makes me mad and frustrated too. Seeds like this are part of my attempt to channel my anger into something positive or at least clarifying. As Public Image Limited sang, "Anger is an energy."

That anger is also what drove me to write this.
