Satire: Forget Rachael Ray! You Know Who Dresses Like a Terrorist? Relatives of Bush and McCain

Sun Jun 1, 2008 7:29 PM EDT
satire
By Scott (Scoop) Butki

McCain's daughter: Possible terrorist?Sleeper cell? Photo via Daily Kos

Lauren Bush, looking deceptively happy. Could that be the smirk of a terrorist?

Why is Malkin so happy when she's near a scarf? What is she hiding? Should she now boycott herself?

Advertise | AdChoices

The Weakly World News has learned that a Bush niece, McCain's daughter and rapper Kayne West have been photographed wearing scarves, thus making them - much like Rachael Ray earlier this week - potential terrorists.

The Drudge Report somehow got wind of this exclusive Weakly World News story and posted the gist of it.

Within minutes Dunkin' Donuts was deluged with calls demanding they drop Kayne West and the Bush girls as spokespeople. Told they had no connection to the company one caller was heard to say, "Obfuscate all you want, we know the truth."

Apparently America can't handle the truth.

A spokesman for Rachael Ray could not stop laughing when asked to comment for this story.

Michelle Malkin could not be reached for comment but was last seen headed to an emergency room to remove her head from her ass. She reportedly has an appointment with a proctologist tomorrow in order to say what she can pull out of her ass next.

Told about the photos of the Bush and McCain relatives the spokesman for Homeland Security, ironically named Mr. McCarthy, promised to look into it as soon as hell freezes over. His reaction to the Kayne West news was markedly different. "Wasn't that the guy who was hating on Bush after Katrina? He wore a scarf? I guess he'll be making like Johnny Cash and playing his next concert from prison."

Stay tuned to Weakly World News, Newsvine's favorite tabloid, for updates

We now return you to your regularly scheduled Rachel Ray-related discussions

Update 1 - Malkin photo courtesy of this blog (update six)

Update 2 - This reporter is headed to K-Mart, acting on reports that innocent people are able to
purchase scarfs there, somehow then turning into potential terrorists.
Calvin and Killfile, you'll bail me out if I get arrested for this, right?

This is dedicated to JoulesBeef who found the photos in question.

I'd also like to accept the hat trick award for being the first person to work Kayne West, Michelle Malkin, the Bush daughters, Johnny Cash and Joseph McCarthy into the same story.

For those wondering if I just decided out of the blue to pick on these girls this was the
genesis of it, Joules noting these photos. I suggested she write this but she was busy

wow the groups page doesn't really show you all the groups huh?
did not notice that.. and I bet many more didnt notice either.
I wonder what else I am missing.

anyways I would love to see an article exposing the contravercy.. unfortunately I'll be busy until tuesday.. and spell check for the cow can last days.

So if you want to run with the idea.. go for it.. otherwise I guess I will do it on Tuesday or wednesday.

Mister Riggs,
Great find. Personally I saw that the 9-11 hijackers were wearing pants, I have decided to abandon my long practice of wearing clothing below the waste, just to make sure I don't offend anyone. You really cant be too careful anymore.

perhaps we should make lists of things no longer proper.. wasn't fat ossam wearing a gold watch? maybe we should ban all watches.. pretty soon I'll be wearing nothing but a flag pin.

This just in - Hillary has called on Obama to publicly repudiate anyone he knows who wears a scarf.

Obama's spokesman replied, "Wait, she's still in the race? Does she actually think she has a shot in - wait is this on the record?"

The phone then went dead.

Calls to Hillary's campaign were not answered after the spokeswoman refused to confirm or deny that Hillary herself once wore a scarf. Bill Clinton threatened to beat up any member of the media who said bad things about his wife.

In other news, Scott McCellan called to announce that is working on a sequel, "Other Things They Lied about Which I Should Have Told the Media About At The Time." Told that his book has already jumped the shark McCellan said he had photographic proof that George Bush himself once wore a scarf, later explaining that Bush thought it was a bib.

It makes the war on Christmas seem, in comparson, like a minor skirmish in the battle between reality and absurdity in comparison.
I'm very disappointed that DD folded so quickly and so are many others posting in this discussion.
I couldn't believe that the seed at the top of the vine for the week and near the top for the month was about this so-called news.

Uh, should I wear a scarf or not when I bail you out?

I'd say no on the scarf or else you might get arrested.
I can see it now:
me at kmart: "Madam, I notice you are looking longingly at a scarf. Am I right to assume you're considering joining a terrorist organization
woman: "Terrorwhat?
me: "it's a known fact that only terrorists wear scarfs."
she: "But my daughter wears one."
me: "another one bites the dust. This is a sad for america."
she: "Thank god you're here, mr. security guard, this man is nuts."
me: "Nuts for America, madam. Nuts for America."
I was thinking seriously of trying a photo via cellphone at kmart. I know wal-mart has actually confiscated cameras and cellphones from people before for taking photos without wal-mart's permission.
Wal-Mart doesn't know that my favorite photo ever was taken in their lawn department.

Whew! Yes, and Tedd has posted photos of Jackie O wearing scarfs too. Who knew?

Just between you and me and this keyboard I heard Michelle Malkin had a pastor whose sister's wife's brother's niece once wore a scarf.

I'm demanding someone pay for this assault and insult on our nation.

In other news, Ron Paul still has as much chance of winning the election as does Hillary.

I'd say it's the moral equivalent of going after other political innocents like the Obama twins or Chelsea Clinton while Bill was in office. I don't know enough about Rachael Ray to comment about her but if she wants to alienate some of her fans by wearing a scarf, that's her business.

Rachel hasn't alienated her fans by wearing a scarf - that's the whole point - she has simply been used by fear mongering idiots who have suggested that a scarf can represent terrorism and if you want to be stupid enough to agree with that ridiculous statement then seriously make sure it applies to everyone.

I think more people need to pull their head out....

I think wanting to protect the innocent offspring of our leaders is a fine sentiment even if that same leader showed no such regard for those parents whose children he sacrificed to an unjustifiable war.

I don't think the focus is ridiculing the Bush children, in fact the point is to mock those who think a scarf defines terrorism. Surely you can see that pointing out that George's own children wear scarves therefore the idea that scarf wearing denotes terrorist sympathies is completely preposterous. The Bush girls come out unscathed. George Bush will never come out unscathed. Rachel comes out unscathed and DD look like fools who listen to bigger fools.

Exactly. Thank you for stating that more eloquently than I was able to provide. I intentionally included Kayne West so it wouldn't be just about the politicans daughters. My point was for the reader to see, "this is ridicilous - every woman - and Kayne West - has probably worn a scarf at one time. Are they all now criminals?"

I almost asked because I was hoping you were kidding.

It does raise the issue of whether Bush's kids are offlimits. I think the comparison to media coverage (or lack of coverage) of Clinton and Carter's kids misses the mark because they were under 18 while his daughters are over 18. One of Bush's daughters wrote a book and McCain's daughter has been profiled for public stumping for her dad. It's hard to argue they are offlimits when they are putting themselves voluntarily into the public eye versus being a public figure just by nature of who your parents are.

The good news is I went to the scarf section of the K-Mart and monitored the situation. The bad news is I wasn't sure what to do once I got there. I blocked all people from buying the scarfs. I thought about buying them to make sure others did not acquire them but that'd be just playing into the hands of the man who'd then use that info against me.

So instead I asked them to put all the scarfs on layaway under the name Michelle Malkin.

With all these scarf wearers, is it some fashion the usual suspects are pushing?
You know the: "Buy my stupid accessories you don't need!" crowd. (like det pointed out)

        googled:
Fashion tips: How to look good and survive the credit crunch

        ...
        Pretend you are a student

This season fashion actually gives a nod to Uni chic. Style yourself on Ali McGraw in Love Story, with flares, preppy knits and polo tops, long hippy scarves and hats. Everyone will assume you are wearing Marc Jacobs, founder of grunge, who uses Ali as a constant source of inspiration.

Jason Segel Makes Another Fashion Statement In 'I Love You, Man.'

In the history of men's fashion, there have been missteps, faux-pas, and downright travesties. And then, somewhere in the distance, there are scarves.

Fabulous Report: Surf's up, prices down at Steve & Barry's

For men's fashion this summer (we can partially blame Jude Law), designers on both sides of the Atlantic are showing scarves as an alternative to the oh-so-predictable necktie.

Versace, Gianfranco Ferre, Trussardi, Gucci, Dolce & Gabbana, Valentino, Louis Vuitton, Yves Saint Laurent, Bill Blass, John Varvatos, Rag & Bone, Dries Van Noten and Lanvin all showed spring scarves … or sport scarves if you want to butch it up.

More than just a chic checkered scarf

In the window of a downtown Toronto branch of Le Château stands a mannequin wearing the latest spring fashions and a kaffiyeh around its neck. The store has been selling them for about two months. According to one salesperson, "They are selling really well. We'll probably sell them all within two weeks." Asked whether he knew what the kaffiyeh stands for, he said, "No idea." Other major retailers that sell the kaffiyeh include Urban Outfitters and H&M.

I laughed the whole time looking this stuff up, so the effort wasn't a total waste.

Same types claimed this movie Tender Comrade (1943)

was a communist plot. I watched it on TCM awhile back. And some people still think the black-listers were heroes. (like my dad)

Well this grandmother thinks paisley should have been outlawed years ago, along with calico, but no one listens to me. We could have averted this disaster.

Just to be clear, Lauren Bush is Neil Bush's daughter; W's niece. A very beautiful woman who is burdened by an offensive last name. Meghan is pretty too, though she needs to stop getting makeup tips from Avril Lavigne.

Next time I'm reading one of your in-depth polemics I'm going to remember this line and giggle and blush.

YouTube has a video of assorted political figures in headscarves or other native attire here -- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aiDEEpm7xmM -- but no keffiyahs that I could see.
Also Matt Lauer has been photographed wearing one -- oh no! The MSM supports terrorism!

That explains why Matt's always traveling around the world. That "where is Matt now?" thing is just a front!

We're still not as far gone as Turkey which has banned scarf-wearing in schools:

ISTANBUL — Turkey's highest court dealt a stinging slap to the governing party of Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan on Thursday, ruling that a legal change allowing women attending universities to wear head scarves was unconstitutional......
In the head-scarf case, the elite establishment contended that allowing veiled women onto campuses threatened Turkish secularism, one of the founding principles of Mustafa Kemal Ataturk's secular revolution in the 1920s. Head scarves were banned from campuses in the 1990s.
