excerpt:"President Bush said yesterday that he gave up golfing in 2003 "in solidarity" with the families of soldiers who were dying in Iraq, concluding that it was "just not worth it anymore" to play the sport in a time of war. ....
I can't make this stuff up. Bush has given up golf because of the war. I'm pretty sure that one of Michael Moore's better gotchas in F. 911 was teh footage of Bush focusing on his golf game.
I think this guy nails it:
"Nearly every president of the past century, including Bush and his father, has been a regular golfer. Presidential historian Robert Dallek noted that Dwight D. Eisenhower's golf habit was so advanced that Democrats accused him of neglecting his duties.
But Dallek, who is critical of the current president's legacy, said Bush's remarks about Iraq "speak to his shallowness." Dallek added: "That's his idea of sacrifice, to give up golf?" "
Reprehensible. Keith Olbermann tore him a new one last night. This isn't politics, its human decency and respect for the fallen.
Golf, Sir? Golf sends the wrong signal to the grieving families of our men and women butchered in Iraq? Do you think these families, Mr. Bush - their lives blighted forever -- care about you playing golf? Do you think, Sir, they care about you? You, Mr. Bush, let their sons and daughters be killed. Sir, to show your solidarity with them - you gave up golf?
Good for Keith. I'll check out the link later - thanks
Let me fix that. Here you go
Sorry, should remember to read before clicking.
Good. Maybe next he'll do something USEFUL to show solidarity with the soldiers. Like not starting any more illegal wars.
Email that idea to Bush!
