April Movie Discussion: Into The Wild

advertisement

I've had mixed luck so far with this but I'm going to give it three more tries, with Into the Wild for
April, Soldiers In the Army of God for May and Capturing the Friedmans for June.

Here's the deal - once a month I lead a movie discussion at my church. We've done discussions on everything from Dogma to Jonestown, Monty Python's Life of Brian to Sicko.

I've tried to also do discussions online. The first few - Dixie Chicks and Jesus Camp and - drew some comments and we had a good discussion. The last few.. not so much with the exception of Devil's Playground (about the Amish)

But let's try this again. If it doesn't I'll give up on it.

What's this?
Who's leading the conversation?
This visualization below allows you to see the impact that each user has on the current conversation. The top row contains the group of users who have had the most impact, the 2nd row the group of users who have had the 2nd most impact (et cetera). Users with similar impact are grouped together, and the average score of the group is shown to the left of the group. The author of the article is also shown on the left, in their corresponding group. Each user's score is based on the number of comments the user has made plus the number of votes their comments have received. The scores are calculated relative one another, so while their absolute value is not particularly important, their relative difference does indicate a larger difference in impact on the conversation.

Any questions? If not I'll post questions as we get closer to the day of the church movie discussion - which is April 20 - or you can post your own questions.

Or let me know with a comment if you plan to participate in this discussion. Thanks.

    with the exception of

What a cliffhanger, Scott! Did we lose some copy? It happens.

RE questions -- Would any of you have reservations about letting your kid get rid of all their possessions and money and take off for Alaska (or anywhere)?
Icebreaker: Has anyone here every wished they could chuck it all and just live off the land, or take off for some wild adventure?
Aside from whether he survived or not, do you think his wilderness experiment was a helpful one? Do you think his isolation helped him to deal with family issues?

    Off to fix the typo

I'm going to guess that everyone would have some reservations and concerns if someone they knew got rid of all they left. It's a pretty big warning sign don't you think?

FWIW there's a second disk of bonus features about the movie. Both are en route to me via netflix.

Here's a great story about the movie. I'm going to watch the movie and the bonus
disk tonite. I read and loved the book and encourage(d) others to read it.
