I vented more about this in an earlier seed.
As a country, I think we should be shocked and concerned that 200,000 veterans don't have a place to go," said Stacey Stewart, former president and chief executive of the Fannie Mae Foundation, which is to announce a $200,000 grant today to build housing for veterans. Shouldn't those who served their country be better served by the society that benefited from their service?"
Absolutely!
So what can we do about this problem?
First of all we need to find out why they are homeless -- lack of housing options, finances, domestic issues, mental instability.
What about offering more housing options, even for those who have decided to leave the military upon returning from deployment?
What about mandatory counseling for anyone who has seen combat? Make other counseling -- family, couple, financial -- available. It needs to be easy and without any stigma.
What about have transition plans to ease veterans back into society? And plans to ease the transition from military life to civilian for those who are opting out of the military.
Great answer. I wrote a more detailed answer of sorts myself at this seed about this problem.
